The official DayZ account posted a message about the “successful celebration” of the game’s 10th anniversary. The developers deliberately stylized their message to resemble another announcement – the closure of the Fntastic studio. And they accompanied him with a laughing emoticon.
On December 11, Fntastic, the studio responsible for The Day Before, announced its closure. Sales of the action game in the first three days after release were extremely low, so there are no funds for further development. Fntastic will use all the money it has already earned to repay its debts.
DayZ was released in early access on December 16, 2013, but version 1.0 had to wait until 2018. The authors noted that they were able to reach the release thanks to the support of fans, and also attached a brief chronology of events – just like Fntastic, which announced its closure.
Probably, the DayZ authors paid attention to The Day Before because of the great similarities between both games. Some gamers even believed that the shooter from the Russian studio would “be better in everything” than DayZ. It took only 4 days to test this theory: that’s how long it took the authors of The Day Before to lose all the players and announce the closure of the studio.
