A billion-dollar diamond ring that disappeared from a luxury hotel was found two days later.

A diamond ring worth 1 billion won disappeared from a luxury chain hotel in Paris, France and was found in the dust bin of a vacuum cleaner.

On the 10th (local time), foreign media such as CBS reported, “A diamond ring worth $800,000 (KRW 1.057 billion) that disappeared from the Ritz Hotel, a luxury hotel in Paris, was found by its owner after two days.”

The owner of the ring was a businesswoman from Malaysia who stayed at the Ritz Hotel while on vacation in Paris. They went out shopping in a nearby area on the morning of the 8th, and when they returned after finishing their trip, they confirmed that the ring had disappeared.

The woman told the hotel, “I left the ring on the table in my room when I left in the morning,” and filed a complaint with the police, saying, “I am convinced that the hotel staff stole the ring.”

Le Parisien, a local French media, reported, “The Ritz Hotel security team searched the rooms and the entire hotel to find the ring. After 48 hours, the ring was found in the hotel’s vacuum cleaner bag.”

The Ritz Hotel denied the allegations that an employee stole the ring, saying through Le Parisien, “There is no question of theft (by the employee).” However, he said, “Whether or not to withdraw the complaint depends on the Paris prosecutors.”

The owner of the ring checked out on the 9th and was able to get the ring back. However, he declined the Ritz Hotel’s offer to allow him to stay three nights for free at the hotel during his next visit to Paris.

Ritz Hotel is one of the world’s leading luxury hotel brands. The Paris Ritz Hotel was established in 1989, and accommodation rates per night start at $2,150 (about 2.84 million won), and the penthouse suite is known to cost $50,000 (about 66 million won) per night.

However, this is not the first time that the Paris Ritz Hotel has been involved in a theft incident. In January 2018, an incident occurred in which five armed men stole more than 4 million euros (about 5.684 billion won) worth of jewelry from a display case in the hotel, and a few months later, an anonymous Saudi royal stole about 80 pieces of jewelry from his suite. It was reported that jewelry worth 1.137 billion won (approximately 1.137 billion won) had been stolen.

Meanwhile, the police said that the ring had been found, but the investigation was ongoing.
