Mourinho show: from Cicerone to the pizzino, the Roma coach complains in “silence”
The Portuguese coach published a post to criticize the referee’s decision in Roma-Fiorentina: “Silence is an art of conversation”
“Cum tacent, clamant.” Translated: they make noise even when they are silent. The last episode of the Mourinho show is both a quote (actually confused by the author) from Cicerone, a bow to the Romanist curve who acclaims him, plus an applause for the baby ball boy who brings the pizzino to Rui Patricio, yesterday in the final 9 against 11.
“Silence is an eloquent statement”, are the words quoted by the Portuguese on his Instagram profile, in the aftermath of the 1-1 draw between Roma and Fiorentina, with a tense final, two Giallorossi players sent off and press silence from the coach and team: accompanying the words is the photo of Kayode’s foul on Zalewski (for which Roma asked for a red card).
And it matters little if Mourinho confused “Marcus Tullius Cicero, old Roman wisdom” (who actually said in the Catilinaries “they make noise even when they are silent”) with the little-known Hazlitt, true author of the aphorism cited: it is the umpteenth episode of the film by José who, when he doesn’t respond in Portuguese to avoid being misunderstood, prefers not to comment directly, but to let the images do the talking.
The pizzino
For this reason he posted four photos on his Instagram profile, the first of the embrace with Burdisso, the second dedicated to the Curva Sud banner, the third which portrays Kayode’s foul on Zalewski who was not sanctioned and the last the boy of the ‘pizzino’ .
“Silence is one of the great arts of conversation”, he writes regarding the refereeing controversies, identifying himself with Cicero in the defense of Rome. The Special One only looks at numbers one and for this reason it disturbs the greatest orator in Roman history.

The effect is disruptive: the fans comment on the post with other declarations of love, because in a match that Roma is unable to win and seriously risks losing, they still gain a point despite the double numerical inferiority. It was the occasion for another ‘mourinhata’: the hastily written ‘pizzino’ to be delivered to Rui Patricio with the positions of Bove and El Shaarawy on corner kicks.
“Well done”
To deliver it to his player he uses a ball boy next to him. Lukas, a 15-year-old from Roma’s youth team, was smiling yesterday: after showing the instructions to the Giallorossi goalkeeper, he put the memory in his pocket. And today the thanks from the Special One arrived.
“That was me 50 years ago. Well done boy”, writes the coach on Instagram, showing only the goatee and not the face of the minor postman: he too is a Roma fan who needs to be protected, and not just for the privacy dictated by his age .
