Oligui Nguema calls for the release of detainees from the Man and Wildlife conflict –

The president of the transition instructed the Ministers of Water and Forests and that of Justice to release, unconditionally, detainees who had been arrested in the context of the Man and Wildlife conflict in Gabon.

«In Port Gentil, I asked the Minister of Water and Forests to work with his colleague from Justice to release all those who were arrested for having killed an elephant. I want them out of prison unconditionally“, he demanded. Indeed, it was after listening to the populations during his Republican tour in Ndendé, departmental capital of Dola in the province of Ngounié (south), that the president of the transition made this decision.

At the same time, the president of the transition also invited the populations to slaughter the elephants and urged them to « defend themselves and protect their property. Populations could even resort to the army in the event of difficulty in killing these pachyderms, which have become a real danger in rural areas.

The transitional president also brought agricultural equipment to enable these populations to cultivate more plantations to stem food insecurity in the region.
