The Budget of the Talavera City Council for the year 2024 will reduce credit operations by almost 2 million euros compared to the current year, which means that it will dedicate 43.13 percent less to this concept for investments next year. This was highlighted at a press conference by the Councilor for the Treasury and spokesperson for the Government team, Jesús García-Barroso, who referred to the processing of next year’s municipal budgets, which is still in process.
As the spokesperson has indicated, for the next financial year it is planned to reduce the amount of credit operations by 1,825,050 euros to undertake investments in the city. It represents, as specified, 43.13 percent less than what was requested in 2023 by the Talavera City Council.
García-Barroso has once again highlighted the “effort to reduce and contain spending” in these budgets with the aim of “resolving the situation of budget deficit that we have been experiencing.” Specifically, with regard to the City Council’s debt with the banking entities, he has specified that it amounts to 31 million euros and has spoken about the intention of the Government team to “not increase it further” in order to maintain a “budget balance.” .
As indicated by the municipal spokesperson, the local government has found a “budgetary imbalance” amounting to 3,740,000 euros, according to the Municipal Intervention report of February 17 with respect to 2022. Despite this, he added, “ “We have achieved the goal of establishing budget stability and reducing spending.”
One of the areas in which spending has been limited is in terms of investments, where “those strictly necessary in this first year to reduce the City Council’s debt burden” have been planned.
The Councilor for the Treasury has also pointed out that the financing capacity, according to municipal intervention, in consolidated terms is 9,277,560.67 euros, with which “the objective of budgetary stability is met, which is one of the main requirements and basics that concerned us as a Government team.
He has also referred to the “containment of expenditure” in the personnel chapter, which is reduced by 5.17 percent for the next year, which represents an amount of 1,687,616.16 euros. As he recalled, only one hire will be made in 2024, that of a general administration technician with the creation of a position for tax inspection.
These are some of the aspects of the accounts for next year that have been highlighted by García-Barroso, who has pointed out that, after the information commissions held last week, today, Tuesday, the deadline for presenting amendments by the opposition ends. Next, a new information commission will be held in preparation for holding an extraordinary plenary session for the initial approval of the draft budget. A period of 15 business days of public information will then begin for the presentation of possible allegations and, if there were any, there would be a new plenary session to submit the accounts for final approval.
