Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o is the new jury president of the Berlin Film Festival. The annual event will take place in the German capital from Thursday 15 to Sunday 25 February.
“She represents everything we love in cinema. For example, she embraces different projects and appeals to various target groups,” festival directors Mariëtte Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian said in a statement.
“I look forward to celebrating and recognizing the outstanding work of filmmakers from around the world,” said Nyong’o. “I am very honored to chair the international jury of the Berlin Film Festival.”
The forty-year-old Kenyan-Mexican actress made her debut in 2013 12 Years a Slave, for which she won an Oscar for best supporting actress. Nyong’o also appeared in three films, among others Star Warsmovies and the two Black Panthermovies from Marvel.
