Russia asks for gas: a new consumption record due to cold weather: EADaily

On December 8, Russia set a new record for blue fuel consumption. Due to the cold weather, demand reached 1,717 million cubic meters per day.

“On December 8, 1,717 million cubic meters were supplied to domestic consumers through the Unified Gas Supply System of Russia. m of gas is a new absolute historical record for daily supplies for December. The previous maximum was recorded on December 24, 2012 – 1,714 million cubic meters. m of gas”, – Gazprom reports.

The company explained that the increase in gas consumption is associated with an abnormal cold snap in December in a number of regions of Russia: “The average air temperature in the coverage area of ​​the Unified Gas Supply System dropped to minus 17 degrees Celsius on December 8. For example, in St. Petersburg, the first ten days of December became one of the coldest in the entire history of observations.”

The first frosty temperature peak of this winter has been successfully passed, according to Gazprom. The company added that on some days, gas withdrawals from storage facilities exceed 600 million cubic meters. m.
