As food prices rise, consumers flock to convenience store lunch box menus with cost-effectiveness (price/performance) in the 2,000 won range.

GS Retailconvenience store GS25 announced on the 11th that the ‘Hyejaroun Nutritious Meal Set’ launched on October 25th has surpassed 800,000 units in cumulative sales in the shortest period of time in its kimbap category.

This can be interpreted as a result of the recent rise in food prices, and the popularity of hearty meal sets that focus on prices in the 2,000 won range and various compositions. The hearty meal set consists of rice balls, gimbap, braised quail eggs, etc. in a lunch box container for around 2,000 won.

It appears that its popularity has continued since its initial release. Sales volume exceeded 200,000 units in two weeks, and then exceeded 800,000 units in six weeks. It is said that it ranked first in sales in the entire kimbap category and the sales rate reached 90%.

It was found to be a product preferred by consumers in their 20s and 30s who are reducing spending amid the spread of ‘salty water consumption’. As a result of analyzing purchasing trends, men in their 20s and 30s accounted for the most at 39.1%, followed by women in their 20s and 30s at 27.6%, with 6 out of 10 buyers being in their 20s and 30s.

The most popular purchase time was between 6 and 9 p.m. Analysis shows that it was also popular as a late-night snack or snack. A GS Retail official explained, “As a result of checking the products purchased together with the full meal set, beer was selected as the main item,” and “It was also sold a lot as a late-night snack or snack.”

By commercial district, preference was high for convenience stores near hiking trails in addition to office and academy areas. In particular, in the case of the GS25 store near Mt. Gwanak in Seoul, it is said that the number of orders increased by 4 to 6 times more than average during the fall hiking season.

Meanwhile, food prices are rising in all directions. According to the National Statistics Portal of the National Statistical Office, the price index for agricultural, livestock and fishery products last month rose 6.6% compared to November last year, twice the overall consumer price increase rate (3.3%).
