Lionel Dahmer died in a hospice not far from his home in Ohio, a source close to the family said this week. An employee of the healthcare system confirms that they have been notified of Lionel’s death.
The retired chemist had been in poor health and had been hospitalized repeatedly over the past year. He is also said to have been badly affected by the fact that his second wife, Jeffrey’s stepmother Shari, died in a nursing home in January.

Asked for his son
Lionel is survived by his younger son David and David’s two children.
– Early this morning I was told that Lionel died in a hospice. He just fell asleep. He had been in hospice care since October after his health deteriorated and he was taken to the hospital in Medina, Ohio. Lionel had heart problems and took medication for it, says a source close to the family.

– In recent months he was heavily medicated and had hallucinations that he saw Jeff. He was incoherent and asked if people had seen Jeff. He said that Jeff had come to see him. He also asked about Shari, it was almost as if he was trying to remember happier times, the source continues.
The source explains that Lionel’s health began to deteriorate after Shari passed away in January, writes The Sun.
– At first it was slow, but he didn’t want to get up and move so much. It was almost as if he was ready to die. There are a lot of people out there who have a lot of respect and admiration for Lionel because of what he went through with Jeff and how he dealt with it. It is a very sad day for those who cared about him, elaborates the source.

– We have become very close to each other after he was arrested. I still love my son. I will always support him, I always have, he said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 1994.
Horrible murders
Jeffrey Dahmer was sentenced to 16 life sentences for killing and maiming 17 men and boys in Wisconsin and Ohio between 1978 and 1991.
Several of the murders involved cannibalism, necrophilia and the storage of body parts.
The serial killer was beaten to death at the age of 34 by an inmate in a Wisconsin prison in 1994.
The story of Jeffrey Dahmer has continued to horrify and fascinate since the details of the serial killer became public knowledge. Last year Netflix released the drama series “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”.
The series became Netflix’s second most popular English-language series of all time and the following month Netflix came out with the documentary series “Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes”.
According to the source, the renewed interest in his son was challenging for Lionel.
– The aftermath of the Netflix series and the documentary series last year influenced him. People started showing up at his house, and he got calls at random times of the day about it, so it stressed him out. He was worried about his safety.
