The controversial far-right American media figure, activist and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is back on X. His return follows a vote on the social medium, which was set up by owner Elon Musk.
Musk posted a poll on X this weekend. According to the results, 70 percent of the two million users who participated voted for Jones’ return.
Jones had been banned from X since 2018 for allegedly violating the platform’s guidelines. He also disappeared from Facebook and YouTube. According to Musk, the people have spoken and Jones is welcome again at X.
Jones is, among other things, the founder of the news site Infowars. He is famous for claims about conspiracies that are said to be the real reason for shocking events, such as the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001.
In addition, Jones has paid high damages after lawsuits for unproven claims in his media.
For example, he stated that a bloody shooting in 2012 at a school in the American state of Connecticut was staged. That shooting killed 27 people, including twenty children. Because of that claim, Jones must pay out a total of almost a billion euros in damages to surviving relatives after a lawsuit last year.
