An outrageous incident recently occurred on campus in mainland China. When a professor was explaining “erotic pictures” to students, he was videotaped and reported by students because the images and content were too explicit. After receiving the report, the school responded that it would deal with it as soon as possible. Later, the incident went viral on Weibo, with netizens supporting the professor and saying, “Study medicine! Isn’t it normal?”
According to a report by the Chinese media “Time Video”, this incident occurred on the 6th of this month at Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Jiangsu. A professor introduced “Erotic Palace Pictures” to students during class. The text mentioned that “Seven injuries heal and eliminate themselves.” Descriptions such as “all diseases will not occur” and “all diseases will be eliminated” instantly caused students to rebound and report the professor’s behavior to the school. In addition, it can be seen from the leaked footage that the professor used more than one “erotic picture” and explained it in classical Chinese, and the images seen by the students were not coded.
As for the reason for the report, the students believed that in addition to the inappropriate description of the text, the black and white “erotic pictures” used by the professor were also too explicit. Although the pictures were only character models simulating actions, they were still not suitable for use in the classroom. The report also mentioned that after fierce backlash and complaints from students, Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has now intervened in the investigation and actively dealt with the incident. The subsequent results have not been disclosed to the public.
After the incident was exposed, netizens overwhelmingly supported the professor. In fact, “Erotic Palace Pictures” are traditional paintings depicting human sexual themes, also known as “Spring Paintings”. They come from the ancient Chinese work “Su Nv Jing”. The whole book is divided into two parts. Mostly, that means explaining how to have sex and discussing flirting techniques. In addition, it also describes the psychology, sexual science and other theories of the pleasure process, and advocates that the next step can only proceed with the consent of both parties.
Faced with the students’ move to report the professor, netizens shook their heads and wrote down their opinions, “You are still thinking about popularizing sex education like this”, “Students are probably jumping out of rocks”, “I feel like showing up in medical school It’s normal, who is making such a fuss?”, “Medical schools are not allowed to talk about it,” “The school should stand up and issue a statement to defend academic freedom and independence,” “This is a medical school, not a kindergarten.”
