The image of Pedrinho in tears, in a box at São Januário, right after Vasco confirmed his stay in Série A, went viral. However, in addition to the emotion, the president-elect has been active behind the scenes in recent days. Pedrinho has not yet assumed the presidency of the Vasco, but has been, little by little, strengthening ties with the SAF. The relationship with CEO Lúcio Barbosa is close and, although he still does not participate in day-to-day decisions, the former player has participated in conversations and, in a way, has been listened to.

A specific case was the departure of football director Paulo Bracks, who was fired on Thursday. Lúcio and Pedrinho met at the beginning of last week, when the president-elect spoke about the importance of changes in football leadership.
Pedrinho expressed his opinion and made it clear that he was in favor of Bracks’ departure. He argued that he understood that the manager did not have the profile that Vasco needs for next season. Coincidence or not, Bracks was surprised and fired on Thursday morning, hours after Vasco beat Bragantino and ensured their stay in Série A.

People interviewed by the report believe that Pedrinho’s position had an influence on Paulo Bracks’ departure. Lúcio Barbosa and Pedrinho spoke on Thursday, shortly after the resignation of the football director and before the CEO’s press conference, in the early afternoon, at a hotel in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
During the meeting, last Monday, Lúcio asked the former president who he would bring in to replace Bracks. Pedrinho suggested Rodrigo Caetano, director of Atlético-MG. Rodrigo, however, has not been contacted so far.
Vasco has been negotiating with Alexandre Mattos, from Athletico-PR. Conversations are ongoing, and the expectation is that there will be a definition next week. Pedrinho is not involved in the negotiations, nor was he involved in the dismissal of other names in the football department, such as transition coordinator Carlos Brazil and supervisor Fabiano Lunz. He only gave his opinion on Paulo Bracks’ departure.
In any case, the understanding is that Lúcio has been receptive to Pedrinho’s ideas and suggested that dialogue between the two be daily, due to the dynamism of football. Pedrinho agreed and awaits next contacts from Vasco’s CEO.

Other topics discussed in the meeting between Lúcio and Pedrinho were structural investments in the CT, software, scouting, among other things, something in line with what coach Ramón Díaz and the SAF think. Lúcio Barbosa promised on Thursday that the Moacyr Barbosa Training Center will receive a large investment.
Pedrinho’s inauguration will take place in the second week of the second half of January, on a day to be defined. Until then, he will not have an official position on the SAF Board of Directors, but the beginning of the relationship, albeit informally, is promising. The two sides have shown affinity, and Lúcio seems to understand that Pedrinho and his peers intend to be much more involved in the day-to-day running of football than Jorge Salgado’s current management.
– The relationship is very good. I have a very good relationship with Pedrinho, and I started to get to know the new members. I believe they will add, and we will give our opponents a hard time – said Lúcio Barbosa, after confirming Vasco’s stay in Series A.
This is actually an old relationship. Between the end of July and the beginning of August, when he had just taken over as CEO of SAF in place of Luiz Mello, Lúcio called former players who identified with Vasco to talk, including Pedrinho. The former player was invited to work in the football department, but chose to run for president of Vasco.
