Aetsveld Street Wins 1 Million Euros in Postcode Lottery: Amazing Reactions and Celebrations in Vinkeveen

Big party at the Aetsveld in Vinkeveen on Saturday evening. The street won 1 million euros from the Postcode Lottery. Frans is one of the eight lucky ones. “My wife can stop working,” he beams.

The first Postcode Lottery bus arrives in Vinkeveen around 8:30 PM. The street draw of 1 million euros fell on postal code 3645XN, which includes two blocks of terraced houses. Eight residents with this zip code participate in the lottery. Winner’s supervisor Roel Eleveld goes to all addresses to tell the happy news. “I tell people that they have won something, but not yet what they have won,” he says.

The Vinkeven residents only hear that about 45 minutes later. For this, Eleveld has to do some administrative matters. “I check all the data. It is of course possible that a former resident still participates in his old zip code. We don’t want to make the current residents happy with a dead sparrow. Fortunately for the people on this street, that was not the case.”

Six lots

Remarkably, all winners at the Aetsveld are at home on Saturday evening. “And then there is something special going on here,” says Eleveld. “People have a lot of lottery tickets. The eight winners have a total of 24. And then there is even someone with as many as six tickets. That is really very exceptional.”

It is Jolanda and Robert who, moments later, have Postcode Lottery ambassador Winston Gerschtanowitz sitting on the couch at home and receive their prize live on RTL4. Somewhat awkwardly, the couple waits anxiously for the redeeming word about how much they have won. Gerschtanowitz takes a check for 250,000 euros from a gold envelope. The big winners, who participate with six tickets, seem dumbfounded.

“That’s a lot!”, is all Jolanda can say at first. When asked by Gerschtanowitz what they want to do with the money, Jolanda has a quicker answer. “No idea,” she is clear. “Wow, it really has to sink in,” she laughs.

Spanning

Shortly afterwards, all other winners will be asked by the Postcode Lottery to come outside. While the television program All Against 1 is switched back to the TV program in the street, the seven other residents of the Aetsveld wait anxiously. They receive a golden envelope and are only allowed to open it when they switch live to Vinkeveen again. “Don’t cheat!” Gerschtanowitz shouts. While one person waits uncomfortably, the other cannot believe his luck.

House on the beach

With the exception of Jolanda and Robert, all winners open their envelopes at the same time. Participants with one ticket receive 41,667 euros, but there are quite a few lucky ones with multiple tickets. “I’m buying a never-come-back ticket!” one of them immediately shouts enthusiastically.

Thanks to their five lottery tickets, Frans and Anne-Martine will receive a check for 208,333 euros. They also immediately have ideas for what they can use the amount for. “My wife can stop working and retire just like me,” says Frans, laughing. “And of course we can pay off the mortgage. Although a house on the beach would of course also be nice. The money is gone again!” His wife Anne-Martine agrees. “But I still find it all very strange,” she says. “I really can’t believe it yet.”

Jolanda and Robert also experience the latter. Their two sons both left home this year. They arrive on the doorstep shortly after the awards ceremony. “We happened to be watching television. And then you suddenly see your parents. That is very special,” say the young men, who congratulate their parents with three kisses. “We are really very happy,” concludes Robert, after which he and his neighbors go back inside. “We are going to sleep very well,” say Frans and Anne-Martine.
