The Museum of Decorative Arts and Design (DMDM) will host a family day “Sunlight. Moonlight” today from 12:00 to 16:00, the representative of the Latvian National Art Museum Natalja Sujunšalieva informed the agency LETA.
The guest exhibition of the 4th Latvian Biennale of Ceramics “Self-therapy”, which is currently taking place at DMDM, gathers 55 works by 16 Korean ceramicists. The selection reflects the traditions of Korean ceramic art and marks its further transformations in the present day. On the family day, everyone will have the opportunity to try their hand at gingerbread, ceramics and plasticine soap workshops, as well as learn the Korean alphabet.
At the event, those interested will be able to view the exhibition together with the actress of the Daile Theater Lidija Pupuri.
DMDM will host a gingerbread workshop, where participants will be able to choose their most interesting wooden gingerbread shapes, which are supplemented every year with new ethnographic or Latvian artists’ work motifs: Anša Cīruļas Laima, Jūlija Madernieka’s Chair, Jūlija Straume’s Owl and mitten patterns. The workshop will also hear stories about the history of gingerbread making in Latvia and beyond.
Taking inspiration from Pupures’ story about the dog Hodži, you will be able to participate in the ceramic and plasticine soap workshop “Looking for the dog Hodži”, where the material to be created will be transformed into the shape of a dog created by fantasy. Also, DMDM will hold a workshop “Korean Alphabet”, where you can learn Korean writing.
Members of the Art Museum Youth Club will encourage visitors to guess riddles and engage in various games to learn about natural materials together. Earth, clay, wood – these elements of nature are present both in the traditional and contemporary art of Korea, and in the art and culture of Latvia.
