Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Leander Tawamba, the Al-Akhdood club striker, took on the role of goalkeeper, after his teammate Paulo Vitor was sent off, during the team’s confrontation with his counterpart Al-Wahda, on the latter’s field, on Saturday, and within the Saudi Professional League competitions.
During stoppage time of the match, goalkeeper Paulo Vitor received the red card after handling the ball outside the penalty area, so Tawamba took his place protecting the net, after the team coach completed all the substitutions.
The Cameroonian striker appeared in the goalkeeping position for a number of minutes, including repelling some Al-Wahda Club attacks.
Although Leander Tawamba did not concede any goals, his team lost to its host, Al Wahda, with two free goals, scored before the 90th minute, in the sixteenth round of the competition.
Tawamba (33 years old) had participated in 16 matches in the Saudi Roshen League this season 2023/24, during which he scored 4 goals and provided one assist.
