During a solemn ceremony in the Palace of the Academies in Brussels, Adwine Vanslembrouck received the Dubois-Brigué Scholarship from the Belgian Royal Academy of Medicine (KAGB) in recognition of her outstanding contribution to tropical medicine. Also present at the ceremony were her supervisors Prof. Dr. Ruth Müller and Prof. Dr. Herwig Leirs, and her colleagues from the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the ITM.
The KAGB is an institution of the Flemish Community that acts as an advisory body for the Flemish and federal governments and promotes scientific research by awarding prizes. Within Tropical Medicine, the KAGB awards two prizes annually: the Dubois-Brigué Prize and the Dubois-Brigué Scholarship. The Beurs Dubois-Brigué, worth €50,000, provides important support during Adwine’s final year of doctoral work. It will help her complete her dissertation and publish one or more articles to highlight the results of her work. The jury highlighted Adwine’s exceptional work with her research project ‘Influence of biodiversity and climate change on the risk of mosquito-borne diseases in Europe’, and the importance of her research to address the influence of climate change on the spread of mosquito-borne diseases to grab.
Our congratulations to Adwine and her supervisors, Ruth Müller and Herwig Leirs!
