Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The ability of the Android Beeper Mini application to enable Android users to send messages to iMessage on their iPhone did not last long. Apple finally blocked the application.
Created by a 16 year old teenager, Beeper Mini uses engineering code to connect to Apple’s iMessage server. While the Beeper Mini is attracting attention for its innovation and potential to address the gap in messaging between Apple and Android users, its success is just a corn well. Moreover, Apple is known to be very protective of its ecosystem and has not officially released the iMessage API for third-party applications.
Apple has confirmed that the techniques used by Beeper Mini have the potential to harm users.
“At Apple, we build our products and services with industry-leading privacy and security technology designed to give users control over their data and keep personal information secure,” Apple wrote in its official statement, as reported by Times of IndiaSunday (10/12/2023).
“We are taking steps to protect our users by blocking techniques that exploit fraudulent credentials to gain access to iMessage,” Apple continued.
Apple also emphasized its commitment to protecting users.
“These techniques pose significant risks to user security and privacy, including potential metadata exposure and enabling unsolicited message, spam, and phishing attacks. We will continue to make future updates to protect our users,” Apple added.
Beeper also released a statement following confirmation from Apple.
“We remain consistent with what we have built. Beeper Mini keeps your messages safe and provides increased security over unencrypted SMS. For those who claim otherwise, we are willing to provide our entire source code to approved third parties to evaluate the security of our application, ” said the creator of the application.
