Hundreds of Botošan residents are infected with the HIV-AIDS virus, and most are under treatment. This year alone, seven people, aged between 40 and 60, fell ill and four of them died from the dreaded virus.

In total, in the records of the Botoșani County Hospital, there are 232 people diagnosed with this infection, and 212 of them are under treatment. Most of those affected chose this disease as a result of unprotected sex.

“The issue we’re trying to bring to the attention of the community is the promotion of HIV transmission routes and risk-free behavior. Each of us is responsible for our own health and we can protect ourselves from HIV infection and other sexually transmitted infections by adopting risk-free behaviors and using a condom every time we have unprotected sex“, Carmen Alexa, president of the “Tereza” association.

AIDS is a disease caused by the HIV virus, which attacks the cells of the immune system. Untreated, the immune system weakens, so the body cannot defend itself against various bacteria, viruses or other microbes. This happens when AIDS develops.

Transmission of the HIV virus is mainly through blood and blood products, which were initially contaminated; through unprotected sexual intercourse; through vertical transmission from mother to fetus.
