Civilian Evacuation and Russian Invasion in Avdeevka: Updates and Insights

According to Barabash, twelve people who were evacuated came to the plant shelter since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine and asked for asylum.

“There were 12 people left, they were civilians, some of them worked for contractors who, under a contract, worked at the coke plant. They knew what shelters were there. And that’s why they asked,” he said.

Barabash said that it was very difficult to persuade people to evacuate; they did not want to go.

“After the withdrawal, it’s probably already been a month since all the employees of the coking plant were withdrawn, these people refused to evacuate from the plant and remained. At first there were 17 of them, then we persuaded three, then two more. As of yesterday there were 12 of them, now we managed to persuade them all , everyone was taken out. Now psychologists are working with the evacuees,” Barabash said.

Colors for Avdeevku

Let us recall that in early October Russian troops significantly intensified fighting in the Avdeevka area. This offensive is considered the largest since 2014.

As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valery Zaluzhny, previously stated, the occupiers lost at least 10 thousand soldiers in the battles for Avdiivka. At the same time, President Vladimir Zelensky noted that Russian losses in the Avdiivka area are greater than in Bakhmut.

The Ukrainian military explained that Russian troops would not be able to capture Avdeevka if they did not take the territory of the Avdeevka coke plant. At the end of November and beginning of December, Russian propagandists claimed that they were allegedly having success in the coke area.

However, on December 3, soldiers of the 47th separate mechanized brigade denied rumors about the alleged advance of infidels on the territory of this plant. Defenders emphasized that he is under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Let us add that now fierce fighting continues along the entire front line in the Avdeevka area, but Russian infidels are paying special attention to Stepovoy, which is north-west of the city. The interventionists want to capture it in order to cut off the logistics of the defense forces.

As a military expert, reserve major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexey Getman explained in a conversation with RBC-Ukraine, the Russians have a deadline to capture Avdiivka. The deadline planned by the occupiers is mid-December.
