The Norwegian star couple Anders Mol/Christian Sørum stood for the opposition in the final when the final competition of the world tour was to be decided in Qatar’s capital.
But they didn’t have much to say against the blue-yellow successful pair, both born in 2001. Åhman and Hellvig won 21–16, 21–17 after finishing the match by winning the last six points.
– We have fought so hard for this. We met them in the group stage and then they crushed us, so it feels nice to come back and win this time. It’s always fun to face Norway, they are almost impossible to beat, so we had to bring out our best game, says Åhman in the victory interview on Viaplay’s broadcast.
The Norwegians took gold in the Olympics in Tokyo, but when the title is to be defended in Paris this summer, the Swedish couple is a main contender. Earlier this year, Åhman and Hellvig took both EC gold and WC silver.
– This season has been so good for us, says Hellvig after Saturday night’s victory.
Earlier in the day, the Swedes were looking bad. But the semi-final against the Qatari home pair Cherif Younousse/Ahmed Tijan was turned into victory after Åhman and Hellvig lost the first set.
