Matt does 10,000 steps a day for 30 days and shows what it did to his body

Cardio has evolved over the years. Athletes have found creative ways to incorporate cardio into their daily workout routines. Recently, YouTuber Matt D’Avella decided to put a particular form of cardio to the test. D’Avella committed to 10,000 steps a day for a month and tracked his progress.

Walking has become a popular form of cardio, especially on an incline treadmill. D’Avella claims he doesn’t get on a treadmill often and wanted to incorporate walking into his daily routine. He shared a video on his YouTube page, which has 3.66 million subscribers, about his month-long journey to add more walking to his daily life.

Adjust daily routine

The 10,000 steps per day challenge was linked to the time it initially took. Over the month, D’Avella found himself changing his daily routine to get in the right amount of steps. After the first week, the YouTuber started focusing on getting his steps in earlier in the day. Once he got into this habit, it became more natural and easier to do over the course of 30 days.

At the end of the video, D’Avella shared his progress. In one month, he averaged 12,140 steps per day and walked a total of 364,000 steps. His weight was consistent, starting and ending at 72 kilos. There was a slight fluctuation in the middle of the month, but it ended at the same point. The extra steps and cardio also had no influence on other data points examined, such as blood pressure or resting heart rate.

Did diet have an influence?

D’Avella admitted that his sister was in town visiting for three weeks during this month, so he sometimes deviated from his normal diet. It is of course unknown whether this was a factor in the study. What we do know is that D’Avella plans to keep walking in his routine – but maybe not 10,000 steps. He set a more reasonable goal for himself and now aims for 7,500 steps instead of 10,000.
