Sweden beat Switzerland 4–2 in the semi-finals.
Now the national team is one game away from a tenth World Cup gold – a final that will be the national team captain’s last in the post.
– Now we drive, we’ll take the emotions later, says Åsa Karlsson.
The tournament’s top scorer Wilma Johansson showed the way today as well.
She scored the lead goal in the power play after just over three minutes.
Then Sweden remained in the driver’s seat for the rest of the match.
Shooting league top
But not without the Swiss getting in touch.
After Ellen Rasmussen extended, Switzerland reduced – so also after Ellen Backstedt’s 3-1 goal.
– Switzerland is doing great by constantly stressing and putting pressure on us, says Åsa Karlsson in SVT.
But then the shooting queen stepped forward again.
Wilma Johansson scored her second of the night – and twelfth in the tournament – when she set the winning numbers at 4–2.
With that, she also steps up to the top of the shooting league.
Then it’s a sign of failure
The victory took longer than many thought in advance.
– We get stressed when the game doesn’t sit right. It is always special to be in the semi-finals of a Swedish national team. If it is the case that one more ball rolls in and we lose, I would say it is a sign of failure, says the national team captain.
Now Finland awaits in the final. The neighboring country beat the Czech Republic 8–2 in their semi-final.
The Finns are the second most successful team in WC history with their two golds.
Sweden has nine world championship titles, eight of which are in a row.
The final will already be played tomorrow at 12.00.
