Corinthians 2024 Planning and Transfer Targets: Gabigol, Soteldo, and More

Corinthians’ planning for 2024 advanced last Friday, when the president-elect, Augusto Melo, had his first meeting with coach Mano Menezes to discuss assembling the squad for next season.

Midfield and attack should be the sectors with the most reinforcements. But Corinthians also want full-backs on both sides and at least one defender.

Augusto Melo and Rubão, the club’s future football director, introduced Mano Menezes to some of the players they like. The coach was left to analyze the list further and define his favorites until next week.

It came to the black and white board that Gabigol would be interested in leaving Rubro-Negro, information that is not confirmed by the athlete’s staff. Timão knows that signing is difficult, but he is willing to try.

Last Monday, in an interview with Rádio Bandeirantes, Augusto Melo named Gabigol as a player “with the Corinthians look”.

In the same interview, the president spoke of two Santos players who also fit this profile: Soteldo and Marcos Leonardo.

However, the Venezuelan’s off-field behavior is something that worries and makes Corinthians not excited about the possibility of signing him. Regarding Peixe’s number 9, Timão understands that he must transfer to Europe, for figures that are practically unfeasible for the national market.

Several names are debated internally by Corinthians, which intends to sign more than 10 players for 2024.

One of the players that interests the board and was suggested to Mano is Raniele, a 26-year-old midfielder, who is at Cuiabá.

Uruguayan left-back Matías Viña, formerly of Palmeiras, was offered, but is considered expensive. He is in Italy – he belongs to Roma and was loaned to Sassuolo.

Augusto Melo would like to have the collaboration of a football executive, but is willing to wait for Rodrigo Caetano until next month. The manager’s contract with Atlético-MG provides for a fine until the end of this year.

Next week, new meetings between Mano and the black and white leadership will continue the planning for 2024.
