(CNN) A court in Oakland County, Michigan, ruled on the 8th that Ethan Crumbley (17 ) was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

An Oakland County Circuit Court judge rejected the defense’s argument that the defendant’s life was salvageable, noting that the defendant testified in his own words that “this is no one’s fault but himself.” did.

The judge said the victim, Justin Schilling, 17 at the time, was told by the defendant to get on his knees and then shot at point-blank range. Hannah St. Juliana, 14 at the time, was shot again after she collapsed.

“This is an execution, this is torture. He shoots most of his victims multiple times, and, as he himself wrote, his purpose was to gain notoriety,” the judge said. “This is the worst crime in Michigan history. “His desire was to go down as a school shooter.”

Crumbley sat with his head down in the defense seat as the judge spoke in court.

“I’m a real bad guy. I did something I should never have done,” Crumbley said before sentencing. He said that no matter what sentence he receives, he will “try to be a better person.”

In 2012, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that life sentences without parole for juveniles constitute excessive punishment for all but a small number of offenders. Crumbley is the first minor to be sentenced to life in prison without parole. He was 15 years old at the time of the crime.
