The number of cases of sexually transmitted diseases is increasing in Europe, according to a new report from the European Agency for Disease Control (ECDC).

Chlamydia infection is particularly high in the Nordic countries.

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease that spreads from person to person during intercourse. The disease can cause health problems, for example reduced fertility in women.

In 2021, 184,542 confirmed chlamydia cases were recorded in the 27 countries surveyed, according to the ECDC report.

This is an increase of 13 percent from the previous year.
