Course Description
In this unit, students will learn to analyze the synopsis and cover of a book to determine if it is suitable for recreational reading. They will focus on developing skills of analysis and evaluation of the information provided in the synopsis and cover, to make informed decisions about which books to select for their recreational reading time. To achieve this, they will be presented with different examples of book synopses and covers and taught how to identify key elements that will allow them to determine if a book is appropriate for their age and interests. In addition, they will be encouraged to explore and discover different literary genres, encouraging them to leave their comfort zone and try new books that can broaden their reading horizon. Throughout the unit, students will have the opportunity to interact with their peers and share their opinions about the books they have read. They will also be encouraged to keep track of the books they have selected and create a short report on each one, highlighting their personal opinion of the work. By the end of the unit, students will have developed critical book analysis and selection skills, which will be useful both in their free time and in their academic life.

Unit 1: Selecting books suitable for recreational reading
In this unit, students will learn to analyze the synopsis and cover of a book to determine if it is suitable for recreational reading. They will focus on developing skills of analysis and evaluation of the information provided in the synopsis and cover, to make informed decisions about which books to select for their recreational reading time.

Activities

Activity 1: Analysis of the synopsis
Students will be given several book synopses and in groups will be asked to identify the key elements of each synopsis, discuss their relevance to the overall understanding of the book, and share their conclusions with the class.

Activity 2: Evaluation of covers
Students will bring different books with their respective covers, they will analyze in pairs the important aspects of each cover and present to the group the elements that they consider influential for the reading choice.
Assessment
Students will be evaluated through their participation in the synopsis analysis and cover evaluation activities, as well as their ability to identify key elements and explain their relevance in selecting books for recreational reading.
Duration
This unit will take place over 2 weeks.
