A 60-year-old man from Rotterdam has died after being held in police custody for a period of time in his hometown. The police report this.

The man was arrested earlier in the day for public drunkenness in Vlaardingen. The police had come to the man because of a report of possible unwellness.

The police took the man to the station to let him sleep it off. On the advice of a doctor, the man was woken up every half hour. At last check, officers determined the man was not breathing and began CPR. The man was then taken to hospital, where he died.
