Moscow. December 8th. INTERFAX.RU – The son of US President Hunter Biden has been charged with nine counts related to taxes, American media report.
The 56-page lawsuit lays out a number of allegations, including allegations that the US president’s son failed to pay taxes, fail to file, evaded taxes and filed a false tax return.
The indictment alleges that “instead of paying taxes, the defendant spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle.”
Charges were filed by special counsel David Weiss and the case was assigned to Judge Mark Scarsi, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump.
“According to the indictment, Hunter Biden engaged in a four-year scheme in which he chose not to pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years from 2016 to 2019 and to evade taxes for 2018. tax year in which he filed false returns,” quotes NBC’s Weiss statement.
Hunter already faces criminal charges in Delaware related to the purchase of the gun.
Previously, he was preparing to make a deal with justice, pleading guilty to tax crimes and illegal possession of weapons. The deal stipulated that instead of a prison term, the court would give Hunter a suspended sentence for tax crimes. As for the weapons charge while Hunter was a drug addict, he could avoid prosecution on that charge if he did not commit a serious offense within the next two years.
However, the judge refused to enter into such a deal. According to Hunter’s lawyers, this was due to Republican pressure on the judicial system. Meanwhile, for giving false testimony and illegal possession of weapons, the president’s son could face up to 25 years in prison.
