For several weeks, residents of the city center have seen “much more often” law enforcement in the alleys. An increased presence that does not go unnoticed.
Nothing surprising, when we know that large-scale security operations are carried out in order to “fight against all types of fraud and trafficking”.
This Wednesday morning, it was on Cours Lafayette that nearly ten establishments were subject to checks by the security services (1). Objective: “Ensure, among other things, that all standards of hygiene, working conditions and compliance with regulations in force are respected.”we indicate from the departmental directorate of public security.
Demonstration in this butcher’s shop in the old center. “First of all, we check the identities and regularity of the workers. In this regard, there are no concerns in this establishment, all employees are declared and in a legal situation”slips a police officer.
“Almost no procedure followed”
Now it’s time for checks, during which absolutely “All” is reviewed: from worker diplomas to safety conditions, including the origins of the meat and their clear displays for consumers. Nothing should be left to chance.
And obviously, despite a few infractions noted, this butcher shop is not doing too badly.
Its neighbor, located a few meters away, cannot say the same. A small snack where “almost no procedure is respected. Both in terms of the regulation of postings, the procedures to follow to be compliant, or even compliance with the Labor Code”deplores a labor inspection agent.
“Not to mention the cleanlinesswe add from the population protection department. Look here, the equipment is outdated, the premises are not cleaned and the food is left out in the open. We will do in-depth checks and ensure the origin of the meat. This establishment does not have the authorization to handle or sell them. And yet…”
Surprised by this unexpected visit, the head of the establishment assures “be in good standing and want to respect standards” since he managed the place.
Once all the offenses have been identified, the file – visibly well completed – will be sent to the prefecture and the prosecutor. Just like all the offenses observed today, inside establishments, but also on public roads. “Administrative or criminal sanctions will then be decided. This means that following the report, the establishment can either receive a warning to comply, a fine or even be ordered to close”.
In total, checks last between 20 and 45 minutes for bakeries, and at least an hour for butchers.
Seven arrests
Yesterday evening, at the time of an initial assessment, seven establishments and 73 people had been checked. Among them, six were arrested for checking identity at the police station and one for carrying a category D weapon (a knife Editor’s note).
“This operation is the conclusion of 43 days of interventions in the old center, which bore fruit in the context of various struggles”recalled, with one voice, the public prosecutor of Toulon, Samuel Finielz, and the prefect of Var, Philippe Mahé (read below).
1. The controls and the operation were carried out by the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (21 officials), the border police (16 officials), the Departmental Directorate of Population Protection (the DGCCRF and the food security services). ) and the Departmental Directorate of Public Finances.
