Netflix added 4K resolution since 2014 and began rolling out HDR in 2016. Other streaming services have followed suit, but Swedish public service company SVT Play’s service has lacked both. Until now.
In a little hidden message on SVT’s website, the happy news is announced that SVT Play now supports both 4K (UHD, i.e. 3840 × 2160) and HDR with Dolby Vision. SVT has not overnight uploaded all existing content with the new technologies, but will roll it out continuously. The first with 4K resolution is Historien om Sverige, while the first episode of Taelgia is the first to get Dolby Vision. There is no information on how quickly the rest of the content will be updated.
SVT has so far not updated the technical definitions for SVT Play, so it is so far unknown what bit rate the company runs with for the new technologies. Of course, the screen you’re looking at must support the technologies in order to take advantage of them. SVT Play already has support for Dolby Atmos sound.
