NEW YORK — Police are investigating a random beating that killed one man and left another seriously injured in Brooklyn on Thursday.
Officers responded to a 911 call around 4:38 a.m. about two unconscious men found outside the 968 West 9 Street in the Gravesend sector.
Once at the scene, officials found the two victims, identified as a 66-year-old man and a 52-year-old man. Both were found unconscious with head trauma.
Emergency medical services transported the men to Maimonides Medical Center, where the 66-year-old man was pronounced dead. The other victim was in critical but stable condition, according to police.
As part of a preliminary investigation, police determined that an unknown man assaulted both victims, repeatedly punching them in the head.
“It’s generally a quiet neighborhood,” said Yonatan Feliciano, a resident of the area. “It’s the first time I saw something like that”.
The unknown assailant left the scene in a vehicle that headed north on West 9th Street.
Police have made no arrests and their investigation remains ongoing.
The identification of the deceased victim is pending notification of next of kin.
