The California Mortgage Rescue Program is still offering financial assistance to homeowners who have mortgage or property tax payments.
“People who qualify could receive up to $80,000 in funds so it would depend on how much these people owe,” explained Lorena Domínguez, spokesperson for the California Mortgage Program.
The process is easy since you can simply go to the website of said program, fill out the application and meet the requirements
“The requirements are: having been financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic; also meet the income requirements and live in the property for which they are requesting the funds,” Domínguez said.
Additionally, to be eligible they must be behind on at least two mortgage payments before August 1, 2023.
José Cornejo, a resident of Santa Clara County, claimed to be up to date with his debts since he says he does not trust programs like this that provide free money.
“I have never seen it be reality, they promise, but they don’t deliver,” said José.
However, the statistics provided by the program prove otherwise.
“More than $28,000 homeowners statewide have received support from the mortgage rescue program,” Dominguez said.
Just remember not to fall into the hands of scams since the application and procedure is free and don’t let anyone charge you.
Additionally, there are community organizations that also help with this process.
