FSB Detains 21-Year-Old Kaliningrad Resident for Organizing Arson in 15 Russian Regions

The FSB detained a 21-year-old Kaliningrad resident who organized arson at transport facilities in 15 regions of Russia at the beginning of 2023. About this with reference to the Public Relations Center of the FSB of Russia, report today, December 7, Russian media.

“According to the investigation, the suspect, through Internet messengers, established a relationship of confidential cooperation with an employee of the Ukrainian special services, on whose instructions, for a monetary reward, he searched for persons in order to carry out arson of communications facilities and transport infrastructure. From February to March of this year, the suspect involved a number of people living in 15 regions of Russia in this criminal activity. More than 15 cases of arson organized by the defendant were identified, and thanks to the prompt response, law enforcement agencies prevented five of them and detained ten of their perpetrators,” the department said in a statement.

In addition, the young man provided the Ukrainian special services with information about a military unit located in the Kaliningrad region, where he had previously served. Criminal cases have been initiated against the suspect under Part 4 of Art. 281.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Assistance in sabotage activities”) and Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Treason”).

In September, the Russian FSB identified a Ukrainian who arrived in the Kaliningrad region to collect information on instructions from the Polish Internal Security Agency.
