Kamel Al-Awadhi, Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), expected that the aviation sector will witness strong growth in the UAE next year 2024 in terms of passengers, revenues, etc.
Al-Awadhi said in a press conference held remotely yesterday, “The UAE leads the aviation industry in the Middle East region, supported by hosting a large number of huge international events, conferences and exhibitions throughout the year, such as (COP28), which the country is currently hosting.”
He added: “The aviation sector is witnessing continuous growth in the Emirates, and there is a positive outlook for the sector’s continuous growth in the Emirates,” noting that “what distinguishes the Emirates is the great cooperation between all active parties in the sector, especially airlines, airports, and companies providing aviation services in Country”.
Al-Awadhi stressed the importance of electronic passports, pointing out that the UAE is on the right path in this regard. He said, “IATA is placing the expansion of the electronic passport application, which is implemented by several airports in the Emirates, on its priority list in 2024.”
He pointed out that airlines in the region, led by the UAE national carriers, are making great efforts to reach “zero” carbon emissions by the year 2050.
Regarding the rise in airline ticket prices globally, Al-Awadhi said, “The rise is natural, especially since the operational cost is witnessing a continuous rise at the global level in light of the rise in the prices of all services related to aviation,” pointing out that “the profit that airlines achieve from the rise in ticket prices in particular, It is considered small in light of the high cost. Al-Awadhi pointed out that “the aviation sector in the Middle East region is witnessing very good performance compared to the year 2019 (before the Corona pandemic), and the profitability of airlines in the region remains strong, and it is expected to witness further improvement during the next year.”
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) confirmed the continued recovery of demand for flights globally during last October, with an increase of 31.2% compared to the same month in 2022, while the total passenger traffic around the world reached 98.2% of pre-Covid-19 levels. », Airlines in the Middle East also recorded a 24.1% increase in passenger traffic during October 2023.
