The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in collaboration with several communities, including Cantabria, has led an international cooperation project to provide support to the Republic of Serbia in the process of adapting its agricultural sector to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). ) as a candidate country to join the European Union.
Specifically, the final objective of the project, which lasted 18 months and recently ended, was to provide sufficient knowledge and the necessary tools to implement the cattle and sheep carcass classification system in this country.
Agriculture has specified that this system is one of the measures included within the Common Organization of Markets (CMO) to provide transparency to the market and maintain continuous monitoring of it.
To the classification of beef and pork carcasses is added the standardization of a mechanism for the registration and communication of their prices, which makes it possible to compare what is paid for a certain type of carcass in the different EU Member States and to monitor the market.
The project has been developed through a collaborative consortium with the Republic of Latvia in order to include different visions on the application of the same regulations and enrich the experience and knowledge provided.
The Department led by Luis Planas has been in charge of leading this project, responsible for its proper development and the achievement of the established objectives. The experts from the Food and Veterinary Service of the Ministry have developed the part corresponding to the activities related to the training of all the agents involved.
During these months, more than 15 Spanish experts from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the autonomous communities of Galicia, Cantabria and La Rioja and the Institute of Agri-Food Research and Technology of Catalonia (IRTA) have participated.
There has also been logistical and budget management support from the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), the Spanish managing unit of the EU Twinning twinning program, which is an instrument of the European Union for cooperation institutional between public administrations of the EU Member States and the beneficiary or partner countries.
