Daniela Peñaloza, mayor of Las Condes, called on the Government to take more urgent measures within the framework of the security crisis that the Metropolitan region and the country are experiencing due to crime, ensuring that “we mayors are alone fighting the security crisis.”
According to the authority, after the meeting with the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, and other Government representatives, there was “a feeling that it was a disappointing meeting, because there are no new measures.”
“The Government will do the same thing it does until today. Crime is unleashed with a violence that we did not know about. One only sees opinion and mea culpa, that causes disappointment and concern,” he added.
Although the Armed Forces themselves have said that a State of Exception could generate problems by not having a number of troops and the poor preparation for this type of emergency, Peñaloza highlighted the need to “give signals to criminals and the citizens of that the State is doing something.”
“The truth is that today there are no measures with the sense of urgency that are needed. More than 24 hours have passed since the murder of a 5-year-old child in Padre Hurtado and everything remains the same. We mayors are just fighting the security crisis,” he noted.
Likewise, the community leader emphasized that “we are thinking and seriously evaluating joining the state of community emergency as pressure.”
“You have to have a clear diagnosis, but two years after the Government started, that time should have ended. One must take exemplary measures and make decisions with courage,” he stated.
