Signal box malfunction on the railway: delays on the ICE route between Cologne and Berlin

Due to a signal box malfunction, all ICE trains between Berlin and Cologne/Bonn are currently experiencing delays. As Deutsche Bahn announced on its website, trains in both directions were delayed due to diversions by about 75 minutes. The stop Berlin-Spandau is no longer applicable therefore.

Also on the Route between Berlin and Hanover or Göttingen, all ICE and IC trains in both directions were delayed by around 75 minutes.

The busstops Berlin-Spandau, Stendal main station and Wolfsburg main station are reported to be omitted. Some of the rerouted trains stop additionally in Magdeburg.

According to a railway spokesman, it was early Thursday morning when the problem would be fixed still unclear.

The GDL union is also calling for a warning strike at Deutsche Bahn. The strike is scheduled to begin on Thursday evening at 10 p.m. and last until Friday evening at 10 p.m. However, disruptions are expected before the warning strike officially begins.

Due to the disruption, an ICE with around 200 passengers was on the open route near Oebisfelde in Saxony-Anhalt for several hours late on Wednesday evening came to a standstill. The disruption occurred around 9 p.m. At around 2:50 a.m. the train was able to continue its journey and ended early in Wolfsburg that night. (dpa)
