Austrian film in competition at the Sundance Festival

Daniel Hoesl is represented in the feature film competition at Robert Redford’s film festival with “Veni Vidi Vici”. Stars like Kristen Stewart, Michael Fassbender, Pedro Pascal and Jesse Eisenberg are presenting their new films there this year.

82 feature films from 24 countries will be shown at the Sundance Festival in the US state of Utah in January. The organizers of the largest US film festival for independent productions have now announced the selection – and with Daniel Hoesl’s “Veni Vidi Vici”, an Austrian feature film is also included in the international feature film competition. The festival, founded by Robert Redford, will take place for the 40th time in the Park City winter sports region from January 18th to 28th.

Hoesl, born in St. Pölten, is the director and screenwriter of the film. It was produced by Ulrich Seidl. “Veni Vidi Vici” tells the story of the extremely rich Maynard family, who can lead a life without consequences. The cast includes Laurence Rupp, Ursina Lardi and Markus Schleinzer.

Since its inception, Sundance has aimed to showcase and celebrate risk-taking artists and bold projects, Redford said in a statement. This tradition will continue in 2024. Also celebrating its world premiere is the new feature film by German director Nora Fingscheidt (“System Sprenger”), who brought actress Saoirse Ronan in front of the camera for the book adaptation “The Outrun”.

Well-known actors and Hollywood directors also come to Park City every year. This time, stars such as Kristen Stewart, Michael Fassbender, Pedro Pascal, Jesse Eisenberg and US director Steven Soderbergh will be presenting their indie films. For many smaller films, however, the Sundance festival is a springboard for finding distributors and a wider audience. In 2021, for example, the deaf drama “Coda” won top prizes from the jury and viewers, and “Coda” was later celebrated as “Best Film” at the Oscars. (APA)
