He is the most successful Slovak coach in the era of independence and he is still hungry. He sent a message to the next generation.
He surprised at the Footballer of the Year: I’m probably here for the last time
Three times Slovak clubs advanced to the spring part of one of the European competitions, three times they were led by Vladimír Weiss senior. – Petržalka once, Slovan Bratislava twice. He was the only one to qualify for the World Championships with the national team.
When he was announced as Coach of the Year in March, he was surprised: “I’m probably here for the last time. I may have slightly different plans. We’ll see what life brings us.’
He later corrected his statement. “I didn’t mean that I was quitting coaching, but they are younger here. I’m not giving up yet, I’m just pitching it so much that I think it’s probably going to be. I have experience and I can evaluate it soberly. But I will fight to be here among you again,” said the 59-year-old coach to the journalists present.

You have the taste, but age cannot be stopped
Since then, he won another title with Slovan and advanced from the Conference League group to the knockout stage a week ago. With plans to rejuvenate and further improve the staff, he confirmed that he still has the will.
Unlike in previous months, he does not talk about the future in the club with question marks. He has no reason. Whites are in style, they have won 15 of the other 18 competitive meetings. Weiss seems relaxed at press conferences, likes to joke.
“One thinks one is still 40 years old. You have the taste, but age cannot be stopped. That’s probably the only justice in life,” he said after Sunday’s home draw with Ružomberok, which ended Slovan’s streak of 10 league victories in a row.

Ružomberok is in 8th place and loses eight points to participate in the top six.
The youth will push you out one day, but not yet
Ondřej Smetana sat on the opponent’s bench, Weiss led him in the spring of 2012 in Slovan. It wasn’t the first time he faced his former player. He also confronted Pavlo Staň, Anton Šoltis and Ľubomír Reiter.
Ján Kozák Jr. works in Košice, Balázs Borbély is an assistant in Dunajská Streda, Branislav Fodrek, another of the successful team in Artmedia Petržalka, leads the national team under 17 years of age. Several others, also inspired by Weiss, are starting coaching careers in youth or assistant positions.
“There are already many of them today. The younger generation is coming, that’s natural. But I think that I still have something to give to the team and as long as I rule, I will do until then. The young generation of trainers will push you out one day, but not yet. I won’t give it to them so easily and I will still fight,” emphasized Weiss with a smile.
Since returning to Slovan, he has celebrated the title every time and is heading for the next one. When it came to a lot, only Trnava coach Michal Gašparík from the next generation could beat him – twice in the finals of the Slovak Cup.
