The Castro authorities would have arrested a man suspected of being responsible for the murder to the Cuban pediatrician Efrén Padrón in the city of San Cristóbal, in the province of Artemisa.
The information was confirmed by the influencer Niover Licea, one of the first people to share the murder of the pediatrician a few days ago. According to her publication, the suspect was identified as Yansiel Padrón.
The deceased doctor’s relatives clarified that there was no relationship between the two, despite the fact that they shared the same last name.
The Licea post indicates that the subject had entered the doctor’s home to steal, but when he was discovered, the situation became violent, and ended with the doctor being murdered in his home.
Initially, it was said that the body was found in front of his home by neighbors who passed by the next morning.
The situation generated commotion in the Banes community, where several Internet users shared emotional farewell words for the doctor, whom they described as a great professional who dedicated himself to curing the little ones in the town.
“Rest, Dr. Efrén Padrón, in that good place where a soul as good as you, who cured so many children, deserves to be. Every day I read and write with sadness about the violence in Cuba and the murders over a cell phone, some money, some clothes. But today one of those victims is close to me,” journalist Claudia Padrón Cueto, who was a relative of the deceased, wrote on her social networks.
“The last time he wrote to me on Messenger was to praise my work as a journalist and to tell me that we agreed a lot, that he hoped to see each other one day. I responded that my dad always spoke about him with great affection, about how all the cousins grew up together in the Padrón plain. I also told him that we would surely see each other one day,” he added.
Homicides and robberies with extreme violence have been increasing in recent months on the Island, fueled by the economic crisis and shortages that have plagued the country for some time.
One of these crimes was reported this week in the city of Cárdenas, in Matanzas, where a young man was allegedly hacked to death this weekend by two of his alleged cousinswho attacked him after having an argument with him during the night of last Sunday, December 3.
