Canberra: Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s ‘mischief’ in the warm-up match has now gone viral on social media. The Pakistan team, which came to Australia for the Test series starting on the 14th of this month, was in a warm-up match in Canberra today. Babar Azam made a sudden attempt to ‘become a fielder’ while batting against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI.

Babar Azam, a non-striker, was trying to catch the shot of skipper Shan Masood, who had established himself at the crease with a brilliant performance. Shots hitting the body of non-strikers and fending for themselves are common in cricket, but trying to catch the outbound ball was a strange sight.

It is clear in the video that the ball is not coming towards Babar. Many people on social media are curious as to why Babar tried to stop it.

Cricket Australia itself shared this video on X. Most of the people shared the comment below the video saying, ‘Babar would have thought it was Fielder earlier’.

However, on the strength of Pakistan’s new captain Shan Masood (156*) in the match, Pakistan had scored 324 runs for the loss of six wickets when play was stopped on the first day. Babar Azam was dismissed after scoring 40 runs.

Babar Azam had resigned as the captain of the Pakistan team in the World Cup. Shan Masood will replace Babar who has resigned from all three formats to lead the Test team. Sheheen Afridi is the captain of the Twenty20 team. The captain has not been selected in ODIs. Pakistan’s first series after the World Cup will begin in Perth on December 14. The final match of the three-match series will be played in Sydney on January 3.
