Airbnb Tourism in Romania: Statistics and Trends for 2023

More than one million Romanian tourists and about 120,000 foreign tourists stayed on Airbnb in the first 10 months of this year, which represents about 10% of all tourists, according to the data sent by Statistics at the request of HotNews.ro

Below you have the number of overnight stays by Romanian and foreign tourists in the Airbnb regime.

The statistics differentiate tourist arrivals from overnight stays. The arrival of a tourist is registered when a person is entered in the register of the hotel/apartment where they are staying.

The overnight stay is the 24-hour interval, starting from the hotel time, for which a person is registered in the accommodation record.

In the case of Airbnb accommodations, the average length of stay was 2.14 days on average for Romanian tourists (with a maximum of 2.5 days in August) and 2.16 days for foreigners who visited us the country.

From the total number of arrivals, in the period 01.01.-31.10.2023, the arrivals of Romanian tourists in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions represented 84.6%, while the arrivals of foreign tourists represented 15.4%.

The overnight stays registered in tourist reception structures (including apartments and rooms for rent), in the period 01.01.-31.10.2023, totaled 25,546.6 thousand, increasing by 10.6% compared to those in the period 01.01.-31.10.2022.

From the total number of overnight stays, in the period 01.01.-31.10.2023, the overnight stays of Romanian tourists in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions represented 84.9%, while the overnight stays of foreign tourists represented 15.1%.

By county, higher values ​​were recorded in: Constanța (1.5 million), Bucharest (1.5 million people) and Braşov (1.2 million people).

By country, most foreign tourist arrivals came from: Germany (almost 200,000 people), Italy (151,000 people) and Israel (144,000 people).

The departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at the border points, were 1.66 million people, increasing by 12.7% compared to the period 01.01.-31.10.2022.
