A serious traffic accident occurred this Tuesday at kilometer 209 of CA-1, route to Huehuetenango, leaving several passengers with a nervous breakdown.
The accident involved an overturned header on the asphalt strip and an extra-urban bus from the Golondrina company, which collided with it.

According to lifeguards, several calls requesting help came to the emergency number of San Cristóbal Totonicapán Firefighters. They indicated that a traffic incident had been recorded about that kilometer.
Firefighters stationed at the scene provided pre-hospital care to several passengers, most of them had a nervous breakdown. They were stabilized at the scene and none of the bus passengers warranted transfer to a healthcare center.
According to curious onlookers, the collective unit tried to pass in an illegal place, when the pilot noticed the header he tried not to crash head-on, so he overturned in the sector.
Traffic in the area was affected for several hours while cleanup and rescue efforts were carried out.
The authorities have implemented a series of measures to improve road safety, such as the installation of speed bumps and the implementation of awareness campaigns. However, there is still much to do to reduce the number of traffic accidents in the country, mainly in the last days of 2023.
