An American delegation held discussions in Israel regarding the aggression against Gaza, amid American intelligence estimates that the current phase of the Israeli ground invasion will continue until the beginning of next year.
The White House said that Kamala Harris’ advisor, US Vice President Joe Biden, held talks in Israel regarding the conflict with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and reconstruction, security and governance efforts in Gaza after the war, and will visit Ramallah on Wednesday.
The White House stated that the advisor stressed in his talks with the Israelis “support for Israel’s legitimate military objectives,” explaining Washington’s commitment to the two-state solution and that the Palestinians must have a meaningful political horizon.
US President Joe Biden also said that he was able to convince the Israelis that more aid should be allowed into the Gaza Strip.
He pointed out that he worked with people inside and outside the government to find out what comes after Gaza and that the only available solution to the conflict is the two-state solution.
Avoid the vacuum in Gaza after the war
The Axios news website quoted American officials as saying that Washington wants to avoid a governance and security vacuum in Gaza after the war, to prevent the rise of Hamas again.
The website indicated that Israel has become more willing to discuss plans regarding the future of Gaza after the war, despite the existing differences between it and Washington, especially with regard to the role that the Palestinian Authority will play.
An American official was quoted as saying that no one believes that the Palestinian Authority, in its current state, is capable of managing Gaza, even though there is no alternative to it.
The website stated that US Vice President Kamala Harris’ advisors discussed with senior Israeli officials the objectives of operations in Gaza, informed them of Washington’s vision for reconstruction and governance, and informed them of the need for a plan to avoid Hamas’ return to life after the war.
Leveling the Gaza Strip to the ground
On the other hand, the American CNN network, citing informed sources, said that Israel would have wanted to level the entire Gaza Strip to the ground had it not been for the American warnings.
She pointed out that American intelligence assessments show that Israel cannot guarantee an intensive level of its operations in Gaza for an open period, stressing – according to American officials – that the current phase of the Israeli ground invasion may continue until next January.
700,000 Americans demonstrated in support of Gaza
On a related topic, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported – citing data from American experts – that 694,000 Americans participated in demonstrations in support of the Palestinians, compared to 293,000 who supported Israel.
The newspaper indicated that more than one million Americans participated in 2,600 marches in support of Palestinians or Israelis.
