Manchester United manager Eric ten Haag revealed that the difficult away fixture against Newcastle United was holding his players back. But he made no excuses and acknowledged that everyone needs to do better.
After returning from Türkiye early on Thursday, Manchester United regrouped and then traveled to the northeast to face Newcastle on Saturday.
The performance at St James’ Park was below expectations and Ten Haag said the players were aware of this.
“We are not robots.”
Eric ten Haag explained at a recent press conference.
“When you play a tough game, three games in six days, fatigue can end up being an issue. “It is a problem for which there is absolutely no room for excuses.”
“We played very well against Galatasaray and Everton. We were not satisfied with our performance against Newcastle. “The players said that first.”
“The players said that first. I was self-critical, and I admitted it. “We know we have to do better than this.”
After the much-anticipated game against Chelsea, there will be another Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
The third match is against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Manchester United desperately need a win to keep their hopes of advancing from Group A alive.
