After Alexandre Pires and businessman Matheus Possebon were Federal Police operation targets (PF) regarding mining in Yanomami lands, the singer’s brother, Fernando Pires, published an enigmatic message speaking of “prejudiced judgment”.

Without directly mentioning his brother or the case, he released an image in which he appears to be praying and wrote: “People see the cover and think they have read the book. Be careful, as prejudiced judgment can deprive you of the truth.”

Fernando is the vocalist and instrumentalist of the samba group Só Pra Contrariar. He has been part of the group since its formation and took over leadership after his brother left in 2002, when he began his solo career.

In June 2023, Alexandre Pires announced that the group would tour in 2024 through Brazil and Portugal with the original lineup. To date, the shows remain scheduled.

Understand the case

Singer Alexandre Pires and his manager, Matheus Possebon, are investigated by the Federal Police (PF) on suspicion of involvement in illegal mining on Yanomami lands. This Monday, the 4th, addresses linked to the artist were investigated in Operação Disco de Ouro.

The singer would have received, according to the investigation, at least R$1 million from a mining company under investigation. The businessman is suspected of financing the mining. Possebon would be one of those “responsible for the financial core of the crimes”, points out the PF. The g1 website reported that Matheus Possebon was preventively arrested this Tuesday, 4th. To Estadão, the PF stated that it would not inform about possible arrests in the operation.

Investigators interviewed by Blog do Fausto Macedo, from Estadão, reported that Alexandre insisted on staying for 3 hours on board the themed ship Navio Alexandre Pires for fear of being detained. The arrest never took place, as the police did not have a warrant against the artist. Alexandre had his cell phone seized. See here what the ship the musician was on looks like.

The report attempted to contact Pires and Possebon to comment on the accusations, but received no response at the time of publication. The space remains open.
