YouTube applied a slight change to the interface to show the view and like counter of videos in real time. The animation effect resembles turnstiles or old car dashboards and, according to Android Police, the numbers are updated during playback or even when the publication is paused.
The new feature had already been announced by the platform in October this year, accompanied by other animations and command gestures on the screen. At the time, YouTube explained that the counter would be applied to new uploads, with an animation that “updates the view and like count in real time for the first 24 hours to show how many other users are engaging with what they watch”.
The effect is only available to a limited group of users on the Android app, but the company is expected to expand the counter’s distribution over the next few months. In tests carried out by Canaltechthe app still did not show the new view.

At first, the reception wasn’t very positive: users on Reddit complained that the constant animation could be distracting and disruptive to those who don’t use full-screen mode. On the other hand, the resource can be useful for content creators and social media analysts, who gain a visual tip to analyze the immediate impact of the video and the possibility of it going viral soon after uploading — this would help to understand which content has the best performance after launch.
YouTube released a retrospective of the year
The company recently launched the traditional retrospective of the year with the most popular videos on the platform (including Shorts) and the content creators who stood out most in 2023 — the complete list is now available.
