Many customers disappointed after Aldi’s failed promotional stunt with a hair styling set: “Was it deliberate or a wrong assessment?”

A lot of people returned home disappointed from a visit to Aldi last Saturday. They had seen a striking promotion in the advertising brochure, in a video by an influencer or in an article by Flair or Nina: a 6-in-1 hair styling set from the Ambiano brand for 49.99 euros. A stunt price, because a similar product from a well-known brand, the Airwrap from Dyson, costs around 549.99 euros. Radio2 presenter Daan Masset also returned from a bare-bones trip.

“My girlfriend had seen the promo and asked if I wanted to go to the store for her,” he tells Radio2 Ann&Daan. “I was there at 8.20 am while the store only opened ten minutes later. There were barely 4 people in line in front of me, so I thought “I got it”. But as it turned out: there were barely 4 devices in the store, So I had to go home empty-handed.”

Radio2’s consumer editorial staff heard several stories from people who, like Daan, missed the net on Saturday. The device received many positive reviews last week, both from influencers and from Flair and Nina magazines.
