Fans who had to order an expensive taxi last weekend because their train stopped running after Madonna’s concert cannot count on compensation. Organizer Mojo states that it was clearly communicated in advance that it would be a later event.
Diva behavior is what NU.nl readers call Madonna’s action. The ‘Queen of Pop’ only ended her show last Friday at 12:45 am. Before you leave the Ziggo Dome, it will take you another half hour. A time when most trains no longer run.
It led to great dissatisfaction among fans, who missed their train and could no longer get home easily. Apart from that, many people also found it annoying that they had to wait so long. It is unclear why Madonna always starts her show late. The singer has been doing this for years.
According to Mojo, the audience knew where it stood. The concert organizer says that fans of Madonna know that she usually does not appear on stage before ten. Mojo previously said that Madonna decides what time her performance starts.
Fan opinions are divided
Some fans think that the singer can afford this with her status, but not everyone: “It doesn’t matter how big you think you are as an artist,” says NUjij user Red_Beard_NL. “Starting way too late is disrespect to your fans.”
The concert organizer informed NU.nl that he had communicated that Madonna’s show would not end before midnight. But the email that Mojo sent to ticket holders states: “The start time stated on the ticket is regularly not met. We expect that the show will also start later in the Netherlands and the concert will not end before 11 p.m..”
Mojo emphasizes that you plan the trip to the Ziggo Dome well in advance and keep an eye on the departure times of the last trains.
‘Enough shows that start later’
“We gave advance warning and said that the show will start later than you are used to,” said a Mojo spokesperson. “As soon as there was more clarity, this was communicated on site.”
Because Mojo says it has been clear about the late end time, fans are not entitled to (partial) compensation for taxi costs, for example. There will also be no conversation between (the team of) Madonna and Mojo. “No, this happens more often. There are plenty of shows that start at a later time, just like Madonna.”
Mojo’s general terms and conditions also state that the company is not liable for any deviations in the timetable and the damage that visitors may incur.
Despite disappointed fans, there were also many positive reactions to Madonna’s show. “Madonna treats Ziggo Dome to an unparalleled spectacle, which can rival what challengers like Lady Gaga and Beyoncé offer,” it wrote AD.
