Finally sold a magnificent property in Holmenkollen – had to halve the price

Investor and industrial owner Hans Preben Mehren (78) has for at least the last three or four years tried to sell the magnificent property at the top of Holmenkollen in Oslo. The 12.9-acre property Voksentunet has a total of 14 buildings from several eras, and it was first put up for sale in the summer of 2020 with an asking price of over NOK 120 million.

Now the property has been sold at a deep discount, for NOK 60 million in a tough property market. Buyers are Are Andersen (53) and Elizabeth Lyster Andersen (53). Are Andersen is a partner and head of investment banking at brokerage house ABG Sundal Collier, while Elizabeth Lyster Andersen is a doctor at Bærum Hospital. The couple today have a home at the foot of Holmenkollen, not far from Holmendammen.

– I don’t think this is something we want to comment on, says Elizabeth Lyster Andersen when asked by DN about why they have chosen to buy such a special property.

Nordea Eiendomskreditt has registered a mortgage of NOK 44.3 million on the property.

Long sales process

But it is not only in recent years that Mehren has tried to dispose of the property. He has been at the seller for at least twenty years, and he appeared in VG in 2004, among other things and talked about sales plans for Voksentunet. Since then, he has changed brokers several times.

Mehren bought the property approximately 50 years ago, and he doesn’t want to go to Finansavisen say how much he paid for it at the time. Mehren has several other properties in the area, and he himself lives directly across the street on the other side of Voksenkollveien.

According to previous prospectuses, the yard development on the property has a composition with several buildings originating as far back as the 17th century. The oldest building on the site is Årestua, which according to E24 was built around 1640, and is said to be one of the few original and oldest nurseries found in Norway.

The main house of just over 430 square meters is said to have undergone several upgrades and additions through various eras, and most recently in the period 2017–2020. In addition, there is a porter’s residence and historic yard development with well-maintained buildings from various eras from the 17th to the 19th century.
